Discovery Claim is the first claim where gold was discovered on Porcupine Creek. It lies 300ft up mountain and 2mi upstream from the Big Nugget Mine. Parker Schnabel leases the claim after running out of material in Emmerson Trench.

The Discovery Claim produced 100oz of gold per day in 1898, using a simple wooden sluice. After the easy gravel was mined out, the mine shut down.

The Schnabel Crew takes material from this claim back to the processing center at the Big Nugget Mine.
